Louisiana High School Advances To T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights Top 40

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (LAAN 54) — Covington High School is among 40 schools nationwide moving forward in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition, putting the Louisiana school in the running for a $1 million home-field upgrade.

Covington was selected as one of 10 finalists in the South Division. The school will receive $25,000 and a T-Mobile-hosted Home Game Celebration as part of reaching the Top 40.

Now, the community has a new job: vote.

Fans can vote once per day through Oct. 25. The school receiving the most votes in the South Division will become one of four Division Champions competing for the grand prize.

Each Division Champion will receive $250,000, a Gronk Fitness gym valued at $90,000 and a $5,000 student leadership award.

The four division champions will advance to the final voting round beginning Oct. 29. Fans can vote daily through Nov. 8, with one school ultimately receiving a $1 million home-field upgrade and tailgate celebration. The winner will be announced Nov. 12.

Covington is competing against finalists from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas in the South Division.

T-Mobile said nearly 2,500 schools applied for this year’s competition. The company also awarded $5,000 to 1,000 schools nationwide through its $5K Fridays sweepstakes.

Louisiana supporters can vote through FridayNight5GLights.com or the T-Life app.
