Louisiana Senate Race Pits Julia Letlow Against Jamie Davis

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (LAAN 54) — Republican U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow and Democratic farmer Jamie Davis are competing for Louisiana’s U.S. Senate seat in the November 3 election after incumbent Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy lost his party’s nomination.

Letlow and Davis secured their parties’ nominations in June. Letlow currently represents Louisiana in the U.S. House, while Davis is a Tensas Parish farmer making his first statewide Senate bid.

The candidates have been discussing issues with direct implications for Louisiana, including coastal restoration, data centers, artificial intelligence regulation, health care and economic development.

In a candidate questionnaire published by Louisiana public radio on October 19, Davis responded to questions about several major policy issues, while Letlow did not submit answers to that questionnaire. That distinction describes participation in the specific questionnaire and should not be interpreted as a complete account of either candidate’s public positions.

Campaign finance is another part of the race. Louisiana Radio Network reported October 19 that Letlow had approximately $476,000 more cash on hand than Davis in the latest campaign finance reports it reviewed. Both campaigns have raised millions of dollars.

The election will determine who represents Louisiana in the Senate as lawmakers debate federal spending, energy policy and other issues affecting the state.

Voters can consult the Louisiana Secretary of State for official election information and sample ballots.
