Louisiana Ties For 12th In Study Of America’s Luckiest Powerball States
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (LAAN 54) — Louisiana ranks among the upper tier of states for major Powerball wins when adjusted for population, according to a new study by CSGOGem.
The analysis found Louisiana had 42 Powerball winning tickets worth at least $1 million between October 2015 and October 14, 2026. Two of those tickets were jackpot winners.
That works out to 0.91 major winning tickets per 100,000 residents, placing Louisiana in a tie for 12th nationally with Massachusetts.
New Hampshire ranked first with 1.77 winning tickets per 100,000 residents, followed by New Jersey and West Virginia. Florida ranked eighth, while Texas placed 27th.
The study reviewed 1,420 drawings under the current Powerball format and compared major winning-ticket totals with state populations.
It also examined number frequency, identifying 13 as the least frequently drawn white ball during the period. The number 21 appeared most often.
Those figures may fuel lottery conversations and Friday-the-13th superstitions, but they do not provide a strategy for future drawings. Each drawing is independent, and all valid number combinations carry the same odds.
For Louisiana, the ranking offers an interesting look at the state’s history of major Powerball wins — not a guarantee of future luck.
